THE Garrison House in Millport will not host any events this year to protect the island community from any further Covid-19 transmission.

The custodians of the building, Cumbrae Community Development Company, says organising events to take place in the grounds would be extremely challenging.

The charity says it is looking to next year and is hoping that the iconic seafront building will be back hosting events throughout 2022.

A spokesperson for the CCDC board said: “Events need many months of planning and the guidance available to date, along with the need for organisers to have in place licences, insurances, the potential need to carry out lateral flow tests on site, and restrictions on numbers of attendees etc, make the process of arranging events particularly challenging this year.

"CCDC's priority is ensuring the safety of our community as well as those visiting our island, Garrison House and its grounds.

“The board sadly feel that this is not something we are able to guarantee under the current circumstances and have decided that there will be no events held within the grounds this year.

“We instead look to 2022, a year when hopefully Garrison House can once again play host to the numerous events which have taken place here in recent years at the heart of our community.”
