THE A78 was closed between Wemyss Bay and Largs due to a road traffic incident at Skelmorlie.
Emergency vehicles were called to Shore Road at 11pm last Friday after reports that a Ford Fiesta had left the road and gone into the water.
The road was shut until 4.25am.
While there were no serious injuries reported, a 22-year-old man was arrested for road traffic offences.
A Largs Lifeboat spokesman said: "We were requested to attend a search at Skelmorlie for possible missing persons from a vehicle which had crashed through the road barrier onto the shoreline.
"One person was found by the emergency services at the scene.
"Shortly after the lifeboat commenced searching it was confirmed that another two persons, the only other occupants of the vehicle, had been located ashore."
A Scottish Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson added: "Three casualties had been removed from the car prior to our arrival and were taken to hospital by paramedics.
"Firefighters made the car safe before leaving."
