A MARATHON walking challenge that normally takes six days to complete has been smashed by a Largs charity champ in under 30 hours.

Jamie Frost, 28, blitzed the arduous Isle of Arran Coastal Way in under 30 hours to raise money and awareness for the Mind Over Mountains charity.

The dad-of-two walked through the night with no sleep and across testing terrain to complete the near 72-mile route and 2,100 ft ascent in just 28 hours and 51 minutes.

He admitted the journey pushed him to his physical and mental limits but says letting the mental health cause down was never an option.

Jame, of Beachway, said: "Pushing through this endeavour to raise as much money and awareness for the Mind Over Mountains charity was hugely important and personal to me."

The father-of-two is the first person ever to complete the way in under 30 hours, walking, hiking and scrambling over the 110km.

The experienced adventurer was determined to conquer the testing route, which usually takes even experienced hillwalkers between six to eight days to complete.

He is aiming to raise £5,000 for the charity through his efforts.

Jamie explained: "I moved from the urban environment of London last August to Largs with my wife Grace and two children Carter, three, and Lola, one.

"My son in particular really comes alive in the outdoors and that was one of the main reasons for choosing Largs.

Jamie, who works in health and nutrition sales, found the big city environment claustrophobic and said it started to impact his relationships and mood.

He said: "I struggled with it, and can understand how easily people's mental health can be compromised. I wanted to do something that was very challenging to put myself to the test. I recruited a full support team including a car and hikers and set off.

"I knew it would not be an easy challenge to pull off in 30 hours, but I got there."

The Mind Over Mountains programmes offer immediate support to anyone facing financial hardship or difficult personal circumstances.
