ISLANDERS and visitors have been left 'furious' by long queues to get on board the Cumbrae ferry in the last week.

Independent councillor Ian Murdoch is calling decision makers to get round the table to thrash out a solution as a matter of urgency.

He said: "I watched on Saturday as the ferry queue stretched all the way up into Charles Street.

"Everyone knows that tje Glasgow Fair is going to be extremely busy, even more so as Covid-19 restrictions are eased.

"It is totally unacceptable that a reliable service with reliable support is increasingly unavailable to the frustrated residents, economically impacted businesses and disappointed tourists.

"The Ferry User Group discuss the same issues at every meeting and there is very little progress. There has been no satisfactory resolution on the management and layout of the vehicle queue at Largs, no advanced ticket sales, no booking system and no priority booking or boarding system for residents, businesses, council or other agencies.

"This is not good enough and has to change immediately.

"The Scottish Government, Transport Scotland, MP, Local councillors and North Ayrshire Council officers should be sitting around a table with Caledonian MacBrayne and CMAL in order to tackle the problem once and for all."
