A TALENTED Largs Primary School student will see her dream come true after winning a national playwrighting competition.

Primary six pupil Rosie Strahan beat thousands of hopefuls to win The One Show’s 'As You Write It - Your Play on Stage' competition.

It means that Rosie will have her self-written play performed by actors at the brand new Royal Shakespeare North Playhouse in Merseyside next year.

Rosie said: “I was stunned and I just couldn’t believe that I had won.

“I am thrilled because it also means my writing journey isn’t ending and my play will be brought to life.

“I think it will be great fun to see it with my family and friends.

“I am struggling to believe it just now but I’m sure when I travel down to Liverpool to watch it I will remember the experience for the rest of my life.”

Rosie’s skills were praised by screen legends Sir Ian McKellan and Lin-Manuel Miranda during the judging.

The youngster says seeing her work come off the page and brought to life by real actors will be a proud moment.

Rosie said: “Meeting Alex Jones on the One Show was a dream come true. She was really friendly and made me feel comfortable.

“We watched a video of Sir Ian McKellan introducing my play and then a group of actors performing a scene. I felt so proud."

Rosie says her family are delighted by her success.

She said: “My grandparents were so happy for me and have already started planning their trip to the theatre.

“My friends were going crazy too and are so excited for me. People have also sent lots of lovely cards and gifts through the post.”

Rosie will now start working to adapt her play for the stage.
