The Ayrshire coastguard is reminding the public of some key safety messages following their busiest callout rate on record with 20 incidents attended in just over four days.

Ardrossan Coastguard have put together a safety video issuing tips and advice for all water users.

While the weather is set to change in the coming days, the advice is relevant all year round for both inland and coastal waters.

• Leave the inflatable toys and boats at home. They are designed for the swimming pool – not the sea.

• If you find yourself in difficulty in the water remember these three words – FLOAT TO LIVE. Lie on your back, resist the urge to thrash about and just float.

• If you see someone in difficulty in water inland dial 999 and ask for Fire & Rescue. If you see someone at risk or in difficulty at sea or along the coast dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

In a coastal emergency always dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Last night's safety seminar for paddleboarders was over subscribed, but Ardrossan Coastguard say they plna on hosting future online events and should keep an eye on their social media page for future updates.
