A flood alert has been issued for Ayrshire and Arran.

Showers are expected to develop in the area from Thursday, these will become more widespread and locally heavy on Friday and into Saturday which could cause flooding impacts from surface water and small watercourses.

Although showers will be widespread throughout the area, due to the localised nature of the heaviest showers, not all locations will be affected.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Protection Agency said: "The onset of flooding could be very fast where the heaviest downpours occur.

"Particularly at risk are urban areas and the transport network, including localised flooding to low-lying land and roads, with difficult driving conditions possible.

"Extra care should be taken if spending time in the outdoors on or near watercourses as water levels could rise rapidly."

"Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property."

The flood alert is now in force until further notice.
