Pollok 1 Largs Thistle 1

Largs Thistle left it late to notch a dramatic equaliser in Glasgow last night in a real midweek battle at Pollok.

Thistle were under the cosh for long phases in the first half but defended robustly with Pollok's Adam Forde going close in the early minutes with an angled effort across the face of goal.

On 20 minutes, Pollok had three good chances in one move with Johnathon Lyon and Matthew Grant having efforts blocked and repelled by defenders and Jamie McGowan in the Largs goal.

Despite the barrage of pressure, Largs had arguably the best goalscoring opportunity of the first half as ex-Rangers and Ayr United Colt Owen McGinty rounded keeper Jordan Longmuir but a last ditch defensive block saved Pollok.

The second half was a different story as Largs had more of a say in matters with Jamie Ballantyne twice going close, first from a long range drive, and secondly from a free kick which was beaten away by Longmuir for an excellent save.

Pollok took the lead on 76 minutes as Matthew Grant wasn't picked up at the far post and he launched a firm downwards header beyond McGowan.

Largs introduced fresh legs with Jack Haggarty and Will Sewell, while McGowan had to make an excellent save to deny Pollok another.

Nifty play from Keir Milliken opened up the Pollok rearguard as Blair McIntyre ghosted in by defenders to head wide under pressure from Longmuir who then had to receive treatement.

With play held up for a spell, Largs carried on undeterred and netted in the 94th minute as McGinty was chopped down when racing through on goal, and netted the resultant penalty with aplomb - see video below.

It was the least Largs deserved for a committed and battling display up against a Pollok side that has been rampant at Newlandsfield Park this season.
