Thistle boss Stuart Davidson has praised his team for keeping their discipline - and believes that Largs can build on their three game unbeaten run as they face up to Benburb at Barrfields Park.

It is the first time in a while that Largs aren't facing one of the big guns in the PDM Buildbase West of Scotland Premier League after a 0-0 against nine men Kilwinning on Saturday.

Davidson said his side is still very much a work in progress and despite intimidation in recent games have kept focussed and not lost their heads.

The manager said: "We are looking for a victory this Saturday - but we were looking for wins at Kilwinning and Polllok too - in the past we would have taken the last three results, and when you look at the table we could have really done with the three points against Kilwinning  but it is a long season and we are a work in progress and for me if we keep doing the right things, not getting beat, and putting in a high standard of performances, eventually the goals and results will come and we will keep moving up the table."

Looking back at the extraordinary Kilwinning encounter, Davidson was philosopical: "We didn't put the ball into the back of the net - butI am pleased with the performance - the boys did everything I asked of them.

"I asked them to frustrate Kilwinning and we did that from off.

"After their first sending off we had a few chances and that is when we have to pounce. We hit the bar and missed a chance or two. It was frustratiing.

"We were trying to break them down and with ten men it is hard enough, and when it went down to nine men, but we were still working their keeper.

"I am pleased we still worked hard and tried to get the goal but we weren't clinical enough.

"When people get sent off and they to half-time they get used to it - and fair play to Kilwinning they did really well down to ten and then nine men.

"The pleasing thing is we did make chances and we have to take them.

"It maybe feels worse right after the game - but if you take perspective we have been unbeaten in three - including two tough games at Pollok and Kilwinning - and we progressed into the Scottish.

"I am not looking too much at the sendings off - I have been over the course with that and the pleasing thing was we were still creating chances and it wasn't through the lack of trying.

"I thought the boys played very well and defensively we were very good.

"It is not unusual in the past to have seen Kilwinning win a game with nine men- I have seen it before plenty of times in football - I am pleased that we are unbeaten in three and need to build on that for the Benburb game.

"The goals have got to come - we have Scott Adam who has topped the goalscoring charts in the league, there is Will Sewell who is a goalscorer, Owen McGinty, Blair Docherty and Jcak Haggarty, and Blair MacIntyre can chip in with goals - there are goals in the team but I am just pleased we are competing with teams and we are not getting beat and we are going toe to toe."

Goalkeeper Danny Farrell has a back injury, Sean McLeod has a foot injury, and Cory Hughes is a long term injury, and Craig Forbes returned to action against Buffs and put in a good display.

Davidson added: "If we got a goal late on against Kilwinning I don't think anyone would begrudge us. I thought we deserved a goal in the end but Kilwinning went down to nine men but I think we contributed to that as we made it hard work for them the way we went about our business, and it was testament to my team that we kept our discipline."

Largs face Benburb at Barrfields on Saturday with a 2pm kick-off.
