Largs Thistle 3 Benburb 0

A controversial penalty decision saw Largs take the lead against Benburb as they recorded an important PDM Buildbase Premier Division victory.

Scott Adam was taken down as he raced through on goal but Benburb management vented their anger at the decision on 39 minutes. See clip below.

Skipper Adam dusted himself down to put away the spot kick. See clip below.

It was a vital goal after Largs had squandered several good openings in the first half but teed up Thistle for a crucial win as they came out the blocks in the second half and scored two goals in three minutes to solidify their lead.

William Sewell dispossed a defender before racing on to fire home on 58 minutes, and then Owen McGinty dashed away from defenders to despatch a diagonal effort beyond the keeper McFarlane.

There was further controversy as Largs had a fourth ruled out as McGinty's stylish finish was ruled out due to offside but video footage showed that the decision was marginal when the ball was played. See clip below.

Injury hit Benburb had the best of their chances in the first half with Jamie Campbell and Gospel Ocholi going close with Adam and Laurie McMaster both blocking dangerous shots. 16 year old McFarlane was in between the sticks for the Bens.

The victory moved Largs up to 16th spot in the West of Scotland Premier Division with Stuart Davidson's side now four games unbeaten, and head to St Roch's on Saturday in The Soccer Shop South of Scotland Cup with confidence.
