St Rochs 1 Largs Thistle 2

Largs squeezed into the second round of the Soccer Shop South Cup after a tricky affair in Glasgow last Saturday.

Thistle were looking good for their one goal lead at half-time courtesy of a top strike from Simon McBryde, but St Roch's came out all guns blazing in the second half.

Largs started the match in good shape.

There was an early blow for Largs after skipper Scott Adam had to come off the field with injury to be replaced by Keir Milliken on 19 minutes.

Largs took the lead on 28 minutes and it was a spectacular opener.

Simon McBryde won the ball in midfield and teed up McGinty's whose curling cross was knocked clear by a defender straight into the path of McBryde on the edge of the area.

The midfielder looked up and sent a rising piledriver into the postage stamp corner from 22 yards out. See clip below

The goal certainly rattled St Roch's who immediately responded through Brian Henderson who burst into the box but his diagonal effort flew wide of the left post.

And on 55 minutes, the home side equalised after a corner in the box resulted in an effort which smashed off the right post. See clip below.

St Roch's kept the ball in the danger area as the ball was swung to the left post for defender Brian McQueen to direct a downward header powerfully into the net.

Davidson's troops got the winning goal out of the blue on 70 minutes as Will Sewell reacted brilliantly to a deep cross to the back post

He sent a looping header back across the keeper and into the net on the angle to give Largs the lead.

There was an incredible triple clearance near the end of this encounter which resulted in a great save by McGowan at the post and a clearance off the line thanks to a header from Hughes before the danger was cleared. See clip below.

Largs showed some real bottle to come through this cup tie - and the most important thing is that they are in the hat for the 2nd round.
