IT was game, set and match at West Kilbride Tennis Club as players competed for the club titles.

The men's singles championship was won by John Byrne after an impressive run of victories.

John is a first time winner after joining just this season.

He is also a familiar face on the padel circuit where he is a Scottish senior champion and travels around the UK taking part in national events.

Elsewhere in the West Kilbride tennis club competition, former Greenock Morton defender Dougie Johnstone was among the winners alongside partner Kevin McCrorie in the gents doubles.

Other winners were: Maureen Powell and Carol Lyon - Ladies Doubles Consolation, Sophie Emerson - Ladies Singles, Jean Wilson and Jennifer McNicoll - Ladies Doubles, Christina McGillon and Robert Jack - Mixed Doubles Consolation, Jennifer McNicoll and Kevin McCrorie - Mixed Doubles, Jim McGhie - Men’s Singles Consolation, Alan Taylor and John Connor - Mens Doubles Consolation.

There was a good turnout on finals day to support the participants from the sidelines.

The club has two men’s teams in the first division and third division of the Ayrshire league, as well as two ladies teams in the first and third division of their respective competitions.

It also offers game improvement opportunities for members and non-members through a range of coaching programmes.
