A £180,000 scheme of roadworks are taking place in Wemyss Bay, starting this week.

Essential maintenance on the A78 between The Lighthouses and Kelly Burn will take place from 9pm to 6am each night from Thursday 7th October to Wednesday 13th October.

This scheme will improve the condition of the carriageway and reduce the need for more extensive maintenance in future.

The work requires a series of overnight closures on the A78 at Wemyss Bay, with a signed diversion route between Largs and Greenock.

Northbound traffic will be directed to leave the A78 at Hailie Brae/A760 (Largs) and continue on the A760 to Kilbirnie to join the southbound B780. From here, vehicles will join the B777 on to the A737 at Beith and continue north to the A737 towards Johnstone and join the A761 to Clune Brae (Port Glasgow). Traffic will then follow the A8 at Newark Roundabout and travel west to Greenock, to re-join the A78 at Bullring Roundabout.

Southbound traffic will follow the same diversion in the opposite direction. Wemyss Bay Caravan Park will remain open at all times throughout the works with access only restricted from the North (via Inverkip) during the overnight working hours.

Temporary traffic lights will be required daytime to facilitate cooling of the newly laid materials.

Resident/Keyworker Pass

During the overnight closures access will be maintained only for properties/businesses within the extents of the scheme, under escort. There will be no continuous travel through the closure points of the A78. If you need to travel between the closure points please use the signed diversion.

Please be aware that you may be asked to produce proof of residence, i.e. driver’s license.
