WE take a trip back to the 1980s this week — when trains were permitted on Largs seafront — and look back at golf, football and sports day memories.
Largs Colts were on the road for an away match, and lined up for a photo outside Largs Railway Station in 1980, above.
Largs may have missed out on a land train during this year’s Viking Festival but it wasn’t always the case as a dip into our photo archive reveals.
This miniature steam engine train was pictured in action on the promenade in the summer of 1985 — and it looked like the youngsters on board were having fun.
In the same year Fairlie mums were put through their paces during the primary school’s sports day as they raced to the finish line, above.
We also feature a 1980’s barn dance involving Largs Young Farmers, below. Those pictured include Nancy Lyon, Alex McColl, Jim and Agnes Howietson, and Tom Campbell.
Finally it was a ‘brolly’ good show at Routenburn Golf Club’s championship prizegiving in 1981.
