Hessilhead Wildlife Sanctuary has provided an update on the swan injured by a dog in Largs several weeks ago.

A spokesperson said: "The swan looks good and is very well, but under her feathers, at the site of the injury, there is still a large scab.

"The vet recommends the swan stays in care till this scab comes away, as we need to be sure that the wound has healed well.

"We must also make sure that the swan is waterproof before she is allowed back on the water because if water gets under her feathers she will get cold and wet.

"We will return the swan as soon as we are sure she is ready. We understand that people are upset that her mate and cygnets are still in the area.

"Hopefully they will be reunited soon. Thank you all for caring."
