Sports columnist and Ayrshire junior football legend George Wall writes for the News

It is great to see Largs 20’s at the top of their league.
Ian Nixon seems to be doing a great job and Arnie will get the benefit of that.
With the first team scoring five for the second game running things are looking good. It sets them up nicely for this week's Scottish tie away to Cumnock which is never a easy place to go.
One of the results that surprised me on Saturday though was Cumnock going down 2-0 to Blantyre who Largs took five off last week, so the team should go there with confidence.
No doubt Arnie has his own memories of Cumnock having been a fans favourite at their biggest rivals Talbot.
I have my own memories and not good ones but they do bring a smile to my face.
One was one of the best goals I scored unfortunately it was a OG, our goalie at the time Jim Marner just laughed, over 30 years later he still reminds me of it .
The other was another goal I scored this time at the right end, great celebrations but on my way back to our own half I ended flat on my back.
The Cumnock legend that is Bobby McCulloch took exception to me scoring and in his own way let me know about it, no VAR in those days.
A few weeks ago at a game at Barrfields a spectator took ill and I noticed that one of the coaches ran round to the bowling club to het a defibrillator. The good news was the defibrillator was not required and the spectator was ok.
It did though for me highlight a potential problem. I have decided to try and raise funds for a defibrillator for the club. There will be a Largs Thistle XI v Dukla Pumpherston game on January 23. More details of the teams will come later as will another event on the day I am trying to get sorted.
* What about my favourite player Cristiano Ronaldo, another terrific header for Manchester United to complete a stunning comeback v Atalanta last night.
He in unstoppable.
