Largs MP Patricia Gibson hit out at the misuse of fireworks and repeated her calls to limit the sale and use of fireworks to organisers of licensed displays.

The use of fireworks is devolved, but their sale is reserved to Westminster.
A recent Scottish Government consultation found that 87% of people would welcome a ban on the sale of fireworks to the general public
Speaking ahead of the debate, sparked by a public petition attracting more than 301,000 signatures, Mrs Gibson said: “When used responsibly, fireworks can be a brilliant spectacle, bringing communities together in celebration.
"Millions of people enjoy fireworks displays safely at various events every year. Unfortunately, unsafe and antisocial use of fireworks can also cause a great deal of alarm and distress, particularly the elderly, young children, people with autism or mental health problems, as well as pets and livestock. This can also lead to accidents, injuries and violence which places extra pressure on our emergency services."
However Leader of the House of Commons, Jacob Rees-Mogg replied: "Don’t be such a killjoy. It is fun having bonfire night. We do not want to be a Parliament of the kind that Oliver Cromwell would have enjoyed, cracking down on every possible bit of fun that people have, so no, let us keep on enjoying our fireworks and have a jolly time."
