A weather warning has been put in place for this weekend with heavy gusts approaching 80mph set to hit Scotland.

With the potential for travel disruption, warnings have been made to the public to be ready to make adjustments to travel arrangements if need be.

An amber warning is place for Largs and Ayrshire, with winds set to reach around 45mph.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "There is the potential for a period of very strong winds to develop across northern Scotland on Friday afternoon then extend south during the evening.

"Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely

"There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs

"There is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close

"There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage."

The warning is in place from 12 midday on Friday till 6pm on Saturday.
