West Scotland MSP Jamie Greene has welcomed the decision of NHS Ayrshire and Arran to reverse their decision of allowing no visitors to those staying in hospitals across the health board, having raised the decision directly with the Chief Executive.

Previously, health board bosses made the decision to restrict visiting only to “essential visits”, however now all patients will be able to receive at least one visitor per day.

Jamie was contacted by concerned constituents about the rule change prompting him to urgently write to the Chief Executive who has now reversed the decision.

Commenting, Jamie Greene said: “The decision to allow all patients to see visitors once again is welcome and has put the minds of many concerned families at rest.

“A number of constituents contacted me about the negative impacts that not seeing their family member in hospital was having which led me to write urgently to the health board.

“I know the challenges that local hospitals are facing, however the mental wellbeing of patients and their families must be a top priority in any decisions that are made.”
