New cases of covid-19 in Largs and Millport are remaining steady despite weeks of surging numbers in North Ayrshire and Scotland.

103 cases were recorded in the town and on Cumbrae between January 1 and 7, a slight fall from the 105 cases registered the previous week.

Largs Central and Cumbrae has seen 40 new cases in the past week, with Largs North recording 33 and Largs South registering 30.

Virus numbers have increased in the surrounding villages of Fairlie, Skelmorlie, and West Kilbride and Seamill in the last week.

Fairlie has registered 52 new cases, Skelmorlie has recorded 30 new cases, and West Kilbride and Seamill has seen 56 cases of the virus in the past seven days.

Across North Ayrshire, 2,334 new cases of the virus were recorded in the last week, a test positivity rate of 28.5 per cent.

This is a marked increase on the previous week, when 1,606 cases were registered in the authority with a test positivity rate of 23.5 per cent.

Across Scotland, a further 87,049 cases were recorded in the last week, a test positivity rate of 27.4 per cent.

Across all local authorities in Scotland, North Ayrshire currently sits 7th overall for its case rate, compared to 19th in the previous week.

Inverclyde currently has the highest case rate of any local authority in Scotland.
