It was a volley good show from West of Scotland Padel Centre as it hosted its first ever LTA Tennis For Britain Grade 1 Padel event in Scotland.
The big event was a real spectacle, attracting competitors from all around the UK and beyond.
Padel is a racquet sport that combines elements of tennis and squash where the games are officially played as doubles inside an enclosed area — played with a smaller perforated racquet.
The sport has been growing in Largs, Fairlie and West Kilbride with many locals heading to the centre based at Stevenston Industrial Estate to watch the competitive action which was thrilling and free flowing with lots of entertaining rallies.
A number of West of Scotland padel club members were competing in the event — with the club’s Meghan Montgomerie and Mercedes Perez triumphing in the women’s final.
The gents winners were Nikhil Mohindra and Jorge Martinez.
All the matches were live streamed on the club’s Facebook page - and finals day on Sunday was attended by local dignitaries, including the vice president of Tennis Scotland John Wilson of West Kilbride.
The official presentation had a particular Scottish feel as there was a skirl of the bagpipes as the trophies were being handed out.
The event was sponsored by the new Cita Tapas bar at West Kilbride Railway Station and Padelers.
Cita Tapas owner Chris McMail is a keen padel player and a former president of the West of Scotland Padel Club.
