Officers from Ayrshire's Road Policing Department stopped a vehicle in Ayrshire travelling at a speed of 130 miles per hour earlier today.

The man driving will be reported for dangerous driving in an incident on a road near Irvine.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Remember the road is not a race track."

Ayrshire Chief Superintendent Faroque Hussain, pictured below, slammed the dangerous actions and said: "This is quite frankly a ridiculous speed- behaviour like this is not acceptable!

"All too often police officers experience first-hand the tragic consequences of excessive speed on our roads. The dangers of speeding are well-known and the consequences can be devastating."
