Rutherglen 1 Largs Thistle 1

A late Will Sewell penalty secured a share of the spoils for Thistle in a hard fought encounter in Glasgow.
Defences were generally on top throughout with Largs having the better of the action in the first half while Rutherglen imposed themselves after the interval.
Largs had a penalty appeal on 23 minutes as Stuart Faulds dashed down the right wing and sent in a low driven cross into the penalty area.
A Rutherglen defender lost his footing and went tumbling over, knocking down Ross Love in the process. The ball then broke to Will Sewell who blazed over the bar. See clip below.

There was a nasty head collision between Love and McMaster as they both collided during a clearance — and play was stopped for five minutes for treatment. See clip below

Forbes sent a sizzling effort just wide of the left post on 39 minutes, then Adam’s header was cleared off the line and his follow-up flashed past the post.
Love, who carried on with a bandaged head, was substituted at half-time and replaced by Sean McLeod.

The home side were a livelier propostion after the break and started to carve out some chances.

Rutherglen won a free-kick out on the right wing on 76 minutes and it was curled high into the danger area.
McMaster got his head to it but it only served to direct the ball away from Jamie McGowan’s grasp and into the top left corner of the net in the unluckiest of circumstances. See clip below.

Some ingenuity out on the right wing saw Adam beat his man near the byeline but the angle was too tight and it was a comfortable save for the alert keeper McGinley.

Fortunately Largs managed to get a deserved equaliser as Will Sewell’s electric pace caused Rutherglen problems and he was chopped down. See clip below.

Sewell stepped up and slammed home the spot-kick for the vital point on the road in the 83rd minute.

Given Stuart Davidson’s side had to overcome an unfortunate own goal, it was vital that Largs got that late equaliser, and Largs moved up a place in the PDM Buildbase West of Scotland Premier Division to 13th spot.
