Indigo Communications Scottish Cup Quarter Final

Largs Thistle 2 Petershill 3

Largs lost out in a pulsating Scottish Junior Cup quarter final to Petershill who extended their unbeaten run to nine games.

It was the city side who silenced the bustling crowd at Barrfields after only 30 seconds of action by grabbing a shock lead.

With a large queue still outside the ground, and many fans still taking up position, Petershill settled quickly as their long ball system immediately reaped dividends.

Jordan Scott's 40 yard punt from the inside left channel found Stephen Docherty who evaded the attentions of Ross Love and managed to sweep a diagonal effort beyond Jamie McGowan into the bottom right corner.

The goal immediately focussed Thistle's minds and they went on to dominate the first half.

Petershill suffered an early blow as their keeper Steven McNeil had to be replaced due to injury.

Stuart Faulds probing curling ball through the centre released Will Sewell who diagonally raced down the right and half volleyed an effort off the crossbar.

Sewell was at the centre of most of the action and he was clearly blocked and pulled to the ground but no penalty was given during another good move.

Sewell waltzed around defenders on the left and sent in a searing drive across the face of goal which eluded the keeper's grasp and Sean McLeod slid in at the far post only for the ball to be frantically cleared.

Thistle won two free kicks with MacIntyre's effort just whizzing wide of the left post while Haggerty's curling effort required a good punching save.

The relentless pressure from Largs eventually paid off on 41 minutes with a handball in the Petershill box and Sewell converted the penalty to level matters.

Largs scored a stunning goal to take the lead in the second half as Haggerty, who was a livewire throughout, sent in a 25 yard screamer into the top right of the goal on 62 minutes.

Unfortunately Thistle's defensive vulnerabilities returned to haunt them as Petershill again kept the pressure on with the long ball route.

And their equaliser arrived on 69 minutes as a high cross on the left was swept to the far post for Stephen Docherty to launch a stunning low volley which bulleted into the bottom corner of the net.

The Peasy scored a dramatic winner on 85 minutes as another high cross was launched to the far post with McMaster and Ballantyne trying to clear the danger with the ball somehow finishing up over the line after an own goal after pressure from a Petershill attacker.

It was a cruel way to bow out as Largs looked to try and find a way back into this game in the final minutes but Petershill held firm.
