THE sun shone on Saturday as Largs Bowling Club welcomed in the new season.

Vice President David Reat was officiating in the absence of President Peter Hartley and his wife Jean.

David welcomed members and introduced the 'Green Party', made up of his wife Margaret, secretary Peter Eager, treasurer Bob Randall, Lady President Lillian Crawford, Lady Vice President Ann Randall and guests from the kindred clubs of Ardgowan, Skelmorlie, Halkshill and Millport.

David then led a minute’s silence for club members who had died over the past two years, after which he invited his wife to deliver the jack and two bowls to formally open the green. Margaret received a bouquet of flowers to mark the occasion.

The members then enjoyed a President versus Vice President match, which was won by those representing the Vice President by 65 shots to 48. After a meal, there was a presentation of prizes to the highest up Vice President’s rink of Ivor Lachlan, Alex Bain, Stuart Armstrong and Bill Weir.

The highest up President’s rink of Dan Henry, John Rogan, Donald Welsh and Jim Millican also received prizes, and Robert Bisland won the prize for guessing nearest to the length of the jack.

The afternoon concluded with a vote of thanks from match secretary Malcolm Thomson.
