PERFORMERS from the Largs Players are stepping back onto the stage after an extended break during the pandemic.

The club have a number of shows in the works for 2022 - including the highly-anticipated Sunshine on Leith - and will take to the stage for the first time this year in a one-act play at Halkshill Bowling Club next month.

Maggie Telfer, who is directing this year’s productions, says that auditions for the show were underway even before the first lockdown hit.

She explained: “The play at Halkshill is called Witches of Prestwick, and it’s a wee bit naughty and raunchy so is adults-only.

“We had auditioned for this before the pandemic, and the cast rehearsed on Zoom for four or five months in the first year of the virus.

“However, when we realised that the pandemic wasn’t going to go away, we decided to put it on hold and picked it back up again a few months ago.

“Everyone just snapped back into their parts, even though we had to change one cast member, it is still a fantastic show.”

Sunshine on Leith will take to the stage in October, with auditions starting next month.

Maggie said: “This should be a proper feel good community production with lots of singing and performance.

“We’ve got a tradition for these sorts of shows as well as straight drama, and it feels nice to be getting things back on track.”

Following a successful performance of Cinderella last year in front of a small audience, Maggie is hoping this year’s panto will be an ever bigger success.

She added: “We had three performances with restricted audiences and social distancing.

“It was really successful and everyone seemed delighted, so we were really pleased we decided to put it on, but it will be great to hopefully be back to normal this Christmas."

An open night for Sunshine on Leith will take place on May 22.
