Largs RNLI volunteers were called to a paddleboarder in difficulty last week – but it turned out to be a false alarm.

The lifeboat launched just after 10am on Saturday April 30 after a member of the public reported seeing a paddleboarder in difficulty off the coast at Skelmorlie.

The volunteer crew made their way to the reported location, where they found all was well, with the paddleboarder wearing appropriate clothing and protective equipment, and carrying a mobile.

John Knowles from Largs RNLI said: “This was a false alarm with good intent. We would like to thank the member of the public who did the right thing by dialling 999 and asking for the Coastguard.”
