A LARGS man who has worked on some of the biggest budget movies ever made has added a BAFTA to his roll of honour.

Special effects wizard Stefano Pepin was given the prestigious honour at the glitzy ceremony in London for his work on Netflix series The Witcher with the Cinesite team.

Stefano, who is a cousin of local businessmen Claudio and Ale Nardini, took to the stage to receive the gong on Sunday night.

His mum, Francesca Nardini, said: "We are all so proud of him winning the BAFTA.

"It is such a wonderful reward for all of Stefano's hard work and determination."

The BAFTA is the latest honour for the local man during a glittering career that has seen how work with some of the film industry's biggest stars - including Brad Pitt, Jake Gylenhaal and Kevin Costner.

Stefano is regarded as one of the world's leading special effects gurus, creating magical scenes on a string of blockbusters.

During a 20 year career, he has built up an extensive filmography which includes World War Z, Prometheus, Robin Hood, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Behind Enemy Lines. He has also worked with Stephen Spielberg on World War Two television epic Band of Brothers.

The BAFTA was awarded for the first episode of the second season of The Witcher, which opens with a long, sweeping aerial shot showing the aftermath of the devastating battle from the end of the first season.

The screne was created by Cinesite using drone photography to create an entire CG forest, CG soldiers and re-projections with a full 3D terrain.

Cinesite contributed many of the other visual effects in the winning episode, as well as environments, creatures and other key battle sequences.

Cinesite’s terrifying Basilisk monsters also feature in the season’s exciting final climax, neatly book-ending the company’s visual effects across the series.
