Rail services across Ayrshire and Scotland could be in for weeks of disruption due to a pay dispute between the driver's union and Scotrail.

Aslef has denied reports that it is close to strike action, but is now balloting its members after they rejected a 2.2 per cent pay increase.

Scotrail has been relying on drivers working overtime for several weeks due to delays in training new drivers.

There is the potential for strike action as early as this weekend, but the scale of disruption will not be known fully as Scotrail looks to source driver cover.
