The energy price cap is expected to rise to around £2,800 in October.
The boss of UK energy regulator Ofgem announced the news to MPs earlier.
The current price cap is £1,971, meaning a rise of almost £1,000 later this year.
The energy price cap is the maximum price per unit that suppliers can charge their customers.
The price cap was also increased earlier this year, which meant an average increase of £700 per home.
