To complement the forthcoming 2022 Fife Regatta, local historian John Riddell will be giving a talk 'Fife and Fairlie' in Fairlie Village Hall on Wednesday June 8.

In his talk John will explore the development of the William Fife yacht building yard once located in Fairlie’s Bay Street and discuss how the yard contributed to the expansion of the village from a few fishermen’s cottages to that which exists today.
The name ‘Fife of Fairlie’ became synonymous with the design and construction of beautiful wooden racing yachts, and gave the village a fame which still extends far beyond its coastal location. Twenty-four of the historic Fife yachts are expected to be competing in this year’s regatta with racing taking place throughout the Firth of Clyde between June 11-17.
The well-illustrated talk, promoted by the Largs and District Museum and Historical Society, will start at 7.30 pm, with doors open from 7.15 pm.
An entry donation of £2 will be passed to local charities.
