LARG'S Yacht Haven’s assistant manager is saddling up to support Dame Ellen MacArthur’s cancer charity for young people.

John Stewart will be joining day one of the trust’s Largs to Cowes bike ride, which will be setting off from the marina on Friday.

He will be cycling 143km south on the gruelling first leg the challenge from the haven, which is home to two of the Trust’s yachts, to Castle Douglas in Dumfries and Galloway.

With him will be nine other fundraisers, who will then go on to complete the full distance, tackling a total of 600 miles over eight days between the Trust’s bases in Largs and Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

John said: “I wanted to take part in the Largs to Cowes ride because the trust is a charity close to my heart - and of course the starting point is where I work.”

The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust inspires young people aged eight to 24 to believe in a brighter future living through and beyond cancer. For many young people, picking up where they left off before their diagnosis isn’t possible. So, when treatment ends, the trust’s work begins

Through its sailing and outdoor activities, young people meet others who have had similar experiences - often for the first time, rediscover independence away from home, experience an increased sense of purpose and self-worth, and begin to realise what they are capable of again.
