Plans for a new hot food takeaway for Largs Main Street on the site of a former building that was demolished during the infamous 1995 train crash have been given the green light by planners.
The previous single-storey commercial unit was destroyed during the crash after the train ploughed through the station and the building and landed in the road.
The site has remained vacant ever since – but planning permission was lodged earlier this year with North Ayrshire Council for an unnamed takeaway.
The plans for 82 Main Street were put forward by TSA Properties, who say that the new building would be almost identical to the former shop on the site.
The proposals stated: “The development would see the erection of a single storey building very similar to the previous building.
“It will occupy the same footprint as the previous building and will effectively ‘repair’ this gap in the streetscape.
“The existing access to the train station from Main Street/Crawford Street will not be affected.”
The plans have now been given the green light by council planners, who have attached a number of conditions to their approval.
These include specific opening hours, which will be 8am until 11pm Sunday to Thursday, and 8am until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
