Cumbrae Medical Group have issued posters with advice for jellyfish stings.

The advice issued is as follows - Rinse the affected area with sea water (not fresh water - as this can make the pain worse).
Remove the stingers from the skin using tweezers or edge of a bank card.
Soak the area in very warm water (as hot as can be tolerated) for at least 30 minutes - use hot flannels or towels if you cannot soak it.
Apply local anaesthetic or antihistamine ointment and follow the instructions on the package.
Take painkillers like paracetamol or Ibuprofen if required.

The poster has been placed on the entrance to the health centre.
