A DISABLED charity powered around Cumbrae for their fourth annual Tour De Millport challenge.

The Big Disability Group, which works to support people in Clydebank, returned to the island for their yearly cycle – raising a fantastic £750.

Founder Kevin Crawford says the island remains the perfect spot for the event - and has also become a favourite among members looking to enjoy a short break.

He said: “We were looking for something a bit different and a nice day - and that's what brought us to Cumbrae."

Kevin says this year’s event was another success, providing a timely funding boost.

He explained: “There were 14 of us, and we had a good mix of people.

“We provide support for all disabilities and long term health conditions, so the annual fundraiser over is a big help.

“The first couple of years we timed it wrong and got soaked, but thankfully this time the weather was beautiful.”

Kevin has hailed the Millport community for always making the group always feel welcome - and singled out one business owner in particular.

He said: “Every year we go to Mapes for our bikes and the owner Scott has always been fantastic with us.

“He always gives us a great discount because we are a charity, which makes a big difference to the funds we raise from the cycle.

“Cumbrae is a great place to go. We always find the people very friendly and welcoming, so much so that I go there with my own family too now on holiday."
