Football columnist George Wall gives his verdict on Thistle's shock cup exit, the return of the Champions League, and more...

Although I thought it would be a hard game I never thought Largs would get beat at Craigmark.
The team will be hurting from that one. The squad looked light on Saturday but still should have been capable of winning. It would have been great to see another Scottish Cup run but not to be. The team now just need to get that one out their minds and focus on this weeks game against Cumnock who are currently sitting top of the league with three wins from three games. It is a great game to show they are still up for the challenge.
I see another few clubs have been guilty of fielding ineligible players, that’s Kilwinning, Dalry, Muirkirk, Arthurlie and Rob Roy in recent weeks. I can’t think they have all done this deliberately so in my opinion there must be something that can be done to enhance the procedures to ensure clubs get it right. It also though shows the value in having a good secretary at your club.
Rangers join Celtic in the Champions League with their win over PSV. I am really looking forward to the buzz that should bring to the Scottish game, Real Madrid, Liverpool Ajax all iconic clubs and coming to Glasgow and although Hearts did not do enough to reach the Europa League they pulled a few good clubs for their Europa Conference ties.
A few good results in these games will bring some credibility to the Scottish game in Europe.
What about Liverpool and Celtic both winning 9-0 at the weekend. I never thought that was possible now in these leagues especially in England touted as the best league in the world. Bit of embarrassment for both Bournemouth and Dundee Utd. I would have thought both these teams would have been capable of shutting up shop and going for damage limitations. Are these teams that bad? Maybe I am old school but what I don’t get it Bournemouth and Dundee Utd only having one player each booked. That to me indicates they just gave up - there is something far wrong there .
Rangers having to play both these high flying teams in the next few weeks.
Maybe missed though and not getting the credit it deserves with the media surrounding Liverpool in England was Erling Haaland's hat-trick earning Man City the win after being down 2-0. A great performance he really bullied the Palace defence and is going to be a real handful for Premier League defences this season.
