TWO Largs cousins have hailed a family effort as their unique eco-cabins business on Cumbrae gets set to welcome its first guests.

After almost two years of planning, bookings are now live for Jack’s Alt-Stays – the brainchild of Daniel and Adam Jack.

The duo’s five new lodges have been hand-built and carefully transported to their new home on Millport - and will host their first paying guests at the start of November.

Daniel admits it has been a long process to get to this point, but has hailed his family for their unstinting backing - including his hard-working grandpa.

He explained: “We’re absolutely buzzing to finally open our bookings and welcome our very first guests.

“It’s been a real tough journey over the last two years, taking our early concept sketches and building them into a one-of-a-kind experience in Millport.

“The pandemic didn’t help but we persevered and we’ve made it, although not on our own and we’ve had a lot of support along the way.

“We’ve had all the Jacks helping out to get the site and cabins pristine, including our 84-year-old grandpa who has been pitching in with the gardening. It’s been a real family effort.”

Daniel says the island was the perfect location to make their idea a reality.

He added: “We think of our cabins as a crossroads where quirky interior design meets eco-consciousness. I would say there’s nothing like it on Cumbrae, or even in the west of Scotland.

“We’ve created five unique cabins, each with their own name, colour scheme, artist’s wall murals and striking features, all sustainably built and powered by 100 per cent renewable energy.

“Cumbrae is a really special place to us having lived in Largs all of our days and it seemed like the perfect location to set up our family business.

“You can easily pack a long weekend staycation with all of the unique things to see and do, great food and drink options and scenic walking and cycling routes.”

With bookings open from Monday, Daniel revealed there has already been huge demand.

He explained: “The reaction has exceeded all expectations which really means a lot to us because we’ve put our hearts and souls into bringing this to life.

“On the run-up to bookings going live, our chat, emails, social media messages and phone lines were going like a call centre.

“Despite launching in the autumn and winter season, people clearly see a cosy couple’s island getaway in one of our cabins as a strong offering.”
