InspireSport Scottish Youth FA Cup 2nd Round
Largs Colts 3 Bonnyton Thistle 3 (Bonnyton win 5-3 on pens.)

Largs went in to this 2nd round Scottish Cup tie as underdogs having never beaten Bonnyton and the visitors having only conceded one goal from open play all season.
The visitors hit the post just after two minutes. Largs managed to break the deadlock after 13 minutes, Niko Doolan took the ball from a throw in, beat two players and passed the ball off to Cormac O’Neill who put the ball into the top right corner of the visitor’s goal.
Scott Rumbold doubled the Colts lead when he converted the penalty won by Innes McAlindon after he burst into the box and was brought down before he could get his shot away.
Ali Downs broke through in the 45th minute and was one on one with the goalie, who was charging out, Ali slipped the ball under the diving keeper and despite the defender’s best efforts to clear, the ball had already crossed the line, 3-0 Largs.
Bonnyton clawed one back when they scored from a speculative long range shot that beat the keeper to his bottom corner. Largs started getting pegged back and matters were made worse when their advantage was reduced to one, when a wicked deflection off the Colts defender found the back of the net.
Deep into injury time Bonnyton got a free kick just outside the Colts’ penalty area, this was smashed at the Largs goal and despite the Largs keeper John Raymond getting a hand to it, he couldn’t prevent it from hitting the back of the net and it was straight to penalties.
All five Bonnyton players found the back of the net, with one missed penalty for the hosts.
Largs went toe to toe against a team they have previously struggled against, only to fall in the lottery of penalty kicks.
Many positives are to be taken from the game and it was undoubtedly a big learning experience for all the players involved.
