A BUS route between Largs and Glasgow has been hailed as the third most scenic in the UK.

The Clyde Flyer 901-906, which carries locals and tourists between the seaside town and the city, was given third place on a list created by insurers SunLife.

The company analysed Instagram hashtags of over 40 different bus routes around Britain, revealing the most scenic for passengers.

The study also looked at whether older people could travel on the service for free.

The local route was described as 'perfect to explore the beautiful coastline along the River Clyde. The buses run up to every 15 minutes every day throughout the entire year.

“If your older person’s bus pass is issued in Scotland, you can travel for free on all journeys on the Clyde Flyer.”

A popular route coming in second place was the Coaster 12 and 12A which takes passengers from Brighton to Newhaven and Eastbourne.

The route involves travelling along stunning English countryside, including the world renowned Seven Sisters cliffs.

First place was awarded to the Coastliner 840, which travels from Leeds and York to the seaside town of Whitby.

The bus travels through the North Yorkshire Moors and the East Yorkshire Coast, passing landmarks including Tadcaster and Whitby itself.
