ABBA, Sir David Attenborough and Still Game have been the inspiration behind the naming of Amey's new gritters tasked with de-icing local roads this winter.
The company responsible for maintaining trunk roads like the A78 have unveiled the return of their popular gritter-naming appeal - with entries open until January 16.
The newly named gritters will join classics such as “Sir Grits Hoy”, “Yes Sir, Ice Can Boogie”, “Skid Vicious” and “Sweet Child O’ Brine”.
New additions to the fleet for the 2022/2023 winter season include “Jack Jarv-ice” and “Victor McSprayed” (Jack Jarvis & Victor McDade from TV’s “Still Game”), “Gritney Spears” (Britney Spears), “Sir David Attenbrrrrrr” (Sir David Attenborough), “Snowey Tribbiani” (from TV’s “Friends”), "Betty White-out” (“Golden Girl” Betty White) and “Snowing Me, Snowing You” (Abba song)
Scotland’s tradition of coming up with inventive and fun names for their gritter fleet has gone viral on social media and made headlines around the world.
