Football columnist George Wall reflects on Largs exit from the West of Scotland Cup and looks ahead to the World Cup...

Not a good day for Largs after that great result at Darvel.
I thought Hurlford were the better side and deserved their victory. Although Largs came into the game late on I don’t remember the Hurlford keeper being worked and no clear chances were missed.
Hurlford just looked physically stronger and wasted less passes than Largs.
From the off they also seemed to be up for it. I think Largs missed creativity and really had no pace up front that would have caused Hurlford trouble.
Not a great game for the spectator but the curry from the shop was good.
It is reat also to see the two defibrillators available if need be. Let’s hope they are never used .
One thing though, the stand side linesman did not perform well , he never kept up with play and gave a few odd offside decisions. Think it’s time he hung up his flag.
The countdown is on to the World Cup in Qatar, kicking off on November 20 with the final on December 18.
Group stages matches will kick off at 10am, 1pm, 4pm and 7pm UK time.
There will be a total of 64 matches played in the tournament . Although I am looking forward to it I really think it’s not the best time of the year to play the competition, it’s needs to get back to the summer months.
Qatar is just not the place to play it however we are there and it’s football. The opening game is Qatar v Ecuador but the next day we have Senegal v Netherlands, that’s the game I am looking forward to. I might end up with egg on my face as I think Senegal are a outside bet for the trophy.
While I am a fan of Cristiano Ronaldo and I think he has a point to prove it might be Phil Foden who will light up the tournament. He seems to be in top form going into it but it could be the England defence will stop him going far in the tournament as I feel if they play Stones and Maguire they are in trouble .
The Argentina frontline will be a handful for anyone and they will be looking to go all they way but what about their centre midfield player, Alexis MacAllister who is of Scottish descent, how did we miss him with a name like that? Brazil are the favourites, five times winners, why would they not be?
My lasting memory of the World Cup is from 1982 in Spain, what a tournament that was. I managed to get to Spain with my mates. We went to all the Scotland games and the atmosphere at the Brazil game was fantastic. I was right behind the goal that David Narey scored his toe poke. Glorious failure again though .
VAR is not working in Scotland, it’s causing confusion and frustration Nobody in the stadium has a clue what is being discussed or reviewed nor do they know why decisions are made. Fans in the stadiums need to be shown the video that is being reviewed and the audio of the discussion between the officials. There is no reason why this cannot be done. We should have planned for this right from the start.
