Football columnist George Wall assesses Largs Thistle, the Scottish Cup, and the latest drama in the World Cup

It was a shock result at Barrfields on Saturday, I really thought Largs would see off Cambuslang Rangers no problem.
Stating the obvious but the league position is not looking great.
Although in 10th place all clubs below Largs have played less games.
The good news though was that Petershill got beat again and they are firmly rooted at the bottom of the table.
It was great to see Darvel progressing in the “big” Scottish Cup.
What a result they had convincingly beating Montrose 5-2 and now have a big reward as they face Aberdeen in the next round.
It is a shame Auchinleck could not join them going down 3-0 at Raith, I thought they might have had a wee chance there too.
So much for my thoughts on the World Cup - it has been very unpredictable so far.
I thought Argentina's attack would put on a show, and last night, they showed what they were capable of but how unlucky were Mexico not to qualify? They looked impressive but ultimately narrowly missed out on goal difference to Poland. Senegal outside bet, were not looking like it, but have come good just at the right time and will face England on Sunday evening.

The Lions of Teranga are my dark horses to win the trophy.
A few shocks in the games so far, one being Morocco beating Belgium.
The big game so far has been Germany against Spain but nothing in that to really get excited about.
Germany must now beat Costa Rica and hope that Spain beat Japan to be certain of going through to the last-16 .
Let’s hope those knock out games coming up give us more excitement.
It was good to see Souness v Keane discussing the penalty to Argentina, no idea who I would put my money on there. Must say though I still don’t understand the use of VAR in the tournament and I have read the IFAB rules on the use of it.
CR7 also got his goal that gave him another record but player of the tournament so far for me has been Mbappe.
France had a bit of a battle to overcome Denmark, but I don't think many reckoned upon Tunisia turning Les Bleus over in the final group game. And what a result for Australia to overcome Denmark who surprised me by only picking up one draw and one goal from their group games.

Croatia bounced back impressively from conceding that early goal to Canada with some stylish goals to triumph 4-1.
And speaking of goals, the strike of the tournament so far has got to be Richarlson's stunning overhead kick for Brazil versus Serbia. It was unbelievable - as the conveyor belt of Brazilian talent seems to keep coming.
