Thistle boss Stuart Davidson was so incensed at the referee awarding two controversial penalties against his side that he felt like walking out of the ground in disgust.

Ten men Largs were already up against it after Cory Hughes sending off at the start of the second half, only for two controversial penalty decisions to hand Beith a 3-1 lead.

The Barrfields side tried their best to get back into the encounter only to concede a late fourth.

Davidson has given credit to his players for keeping the head and still carving out some dangerous opportunities to try and salvage something from this game.

He said: "After Cory's red card we were down to ten men which was fair enough but we were still competing well.

"I can't fault the players at all and they didn't give up despite some terrible decisions going against them.

"After the second penalty was awarded, I felt like walking off - I had seen enough - but it would have been unfair to the players.

"But the players kept fighting and created some chances, and on another day we'd have scored some of them.

"They were not penalties - it was two shocking decisions and I really feel for the boys as they train hard all week.

"We put so much into it and then to have two penalties given against us like that in quick succession was sickening. Sometimes you get games like that.

"I thought maybe after the game that maybe we had not seen it right but then we saw the video footage after the game and it was 'Wow' - what is the referee seeing there?

"The second penalty George Sewell was running along with the Beith player and he lost his balance. There was nothing in it.

"We started brightly and scored the opener but I was disappointed with the equaliser- it was too easy for their main to get in for the cross and it was a free header. It was a poor goal from our point of view.

"Even after the Cory Hughes red card for last man, I felt confident we could go on and win it as we are a fit and well organised team but to lose two penalties like that the game is done. Even the Beith fans were laughing at the decisions. It was baffling. "

Largs sit 11th in the 16 team West of Scotland Premier Division but have played a number of games more than the four teams immediately below them in the battle to avoid the drop.

Davidson added: "I am not happy about where we are in the table and we need to keep working hard as we have shown at times this season we are very capable.

"Due to injuries and suspensions it has been difficult to field the same team twice but I am not using that an excuse and we are going to keep battling away for everything."

Thistle have a free Saturday in which they are going to use to re-group to provide more time for injuries to clear up.

Their next game is a big match at home to basement boys Petershill at Barrfields on December 17 at Barrfields at 2pm, and their final league game of the year comes against Glenafton away on December 30 at 7.30pm at Loch Park.
