Largs Thistle football columnist George Wall's weekly news column

What a result for Largs. To go get three much needed points on a cold winter's night at New Cumnock takes a lot.

No matter how good or bad Glenafton may be that journey and pitch is a test for any team - Well done.

Largs cannot afford to rest on their laurels though as still a lot to be done in the league. It’s time now to go a a run. Let’s hope it’s a great 2023 for Thistle.

Next up is Cambuslang away on Saturday and they are coming off a 7-0 bruising against Beith. Let's hope they are on a downer.

At the top of the league Darvel keep getting the results and it’s going to take a lot by the looks of it to stop them.

In England Erling Haaland continues his goal scoring streak after his time off as he wasn’t at the World Cup . Interesting fact after his goals last week and after 15 games he has scored more premier league goals than the entire Chelsea team this season.

There have been lots of glowing tributes to Pele this week. Nothing I can add to them. As a youngster watching Mexico 70, he was the best.

It was also sad hearing Frank McGarvey died. I met him one after he had signed with Liverpool, nice guy.

Sad to see the way it has ended up for CR7. Ronaldo playing out his time in Saudi Arabia was not they way I envisaged his career would end but I guess for £175m a year not many would say no.

So Rashford was on the bench for Man Utd but comes on for the second half to win the game.

No way would I have him near the squad if he had broken the rules and protocols no matter how big a player.

It might have been a minor transgression but rules are rules and standard need to be high at such a club.

While the Scottish Premier League had an entertaining 2-2 thriller between Rangers and Celtic, there were also two scoreless draws. Meanwhile, down in the Championship, we had shock troops Arbroath winning 4-2 at Dundee, Caley hitting Cove Rangers for six, and Queens Park moving top of the league after a surprise 2-0 win over an in-form Partick Thistle.

Greenock Morton have been on good form but had their game against Ayr United postponed, and still have it all to play for in a very exciting and unpredictable league.
And what about Brentford toppling Liverpool in the Premiership 3-1? That was some result and it is amazing the record that the Brentford manager Thomas Frank has against the top teams.
