Largs football columnist George Wall with his weekly thoughts...

I am looking forward to the 24 hour football charity event at Inverclyde in aid of Alara Kavak's fund to pay for her surgery in the USA (January 27 and 28)

It is great to see so many local teams and players getting involved and getting their boots on for Alara.

A great cause and my hat is off to the organisers.

Anyone who wants to see some unbelievable skill without the intervention of VAR come and watch the Largs Thistle 35’s between midnight and 1am.

Largs Thistle's game was off on Saturday but all results went their way.
Defeats for Cambuslang, Troon, Petershill, Glenafton and Kilwinning who are all below them in the league was good news.
Two hard games coming up against Auchinleck and Beith but if your a player great games to be involved in.
The signing of Jamie Martin is a good move. I have seen him a few times playing for Irvine Meadow and he has always stood out. He will bring energy and skill to the team.
I am actually quite jealous of Darvel. Not words I thought I would ever say.
In the past their dressing rooms were the worse I had ever seen and their pitch was not the greatest. How they have came on and the game against Aberdeen does make me jealous. Would love if it had been Largs.
On Saturday I went to the Port Glasgow v Vale of Clyde game. 1-0 to the Vale was the result, not a great game in windy conditions which had a hand in the goal but probably Vale deserved the win . Interesting comment made was that Port Glasgow are considering applying for the SFA Licence. With the ground being owned by the local council and with all the other items in place for me it’s a no brainer for them. It might be them soon playing Aberdeen.
VAR seems to be the biggest talking point in football at present which seems a shame. Be better if we could talk about great goals and great skill but no matter how teams and players perform VAR gets the headlines. Just as well there was no controversial incidents when VAR went down during the Rangers v Aberdeen game during the league cup semi final. That would have been the biggest conspiracy theory going. With Rangers winning they now face Celtic on February 26 in the final.
