North Ayrshire Soccer Association 2010 League

Largs Colts 1 Bonnyton Thistle 0

Largs were back to winning ways on Sunday after a gutsy performance against unbeaten Bonnyton Thistle.

In what was never going to be an easy game, Bonnyton started strongest of the two teams and with the wind at their backs were pressing Largs hard.

Connor Hitter in the Largs goal pulled of a great save on 10 minutes when he was left exposed at the back, this was the first of many saves as Connor racked up an impressive player of the match performance.

It wasn’t all one way traffic and the strikeforce of Ali Downs and Andrew Moore were tireless and dogged not giving the visitors defence a chance to settle.

The half finished 0-0 Colts came out all guns blazing in the second half, with the wind now behind them.

One minute in Andrew Moore looked to have been fouled in the box, but the ref waved play on.

It became ferocious end to end stuff, there was a stramash in the Bonnyton penalty area and Torin McLaughlin got onto the end of a loose ball and laced it into the back of the visitor’s net. 1-0 Largs.

Largs were fighting to extend their lead and Bonnyton fighting hard to equalise, great tackles from Cormac O’Neill and Logan Martin repelled the visitors and Hitter in goal matched everything they threw at him.

Late on Shaun Kennaway forced a great save from the Bonnyton goalie and Innes McAlindon came close after a lung bursting run down the line.

However the scoreline remained 1-0 to Largs and it was a great team performance that sent them joint top of the league.

On Sunday they face Galston at Bowencraig KO 11:30am
