Roads police officers stopped a vehicle in North Ayrshire for an unusual reason that resulted in a £100 fine.
The vehicle was letting in only 15% of light.
The driver was issued with a conditional offer of 3 points and £100 fine.
A police spokesperson said: "High tint levels can risk the safety of all road users by reducing the driver's ability to see other road users, especially in low-light conditions.
"The front windscreen must let at least 75% of light through and the front side windows must let at least 70% of light through.
"The officers later stopped a van with cord exposed; this driver was also issued with a conditional offer at the roadside.
"Your tyres are the only point of contact between the road and your vehicle; they are crucial for safe and effective braking and cornering, especially in inclement weather."
