Cumnock 0 Largs Thistle 1

David Ramsay was the hero of the hour with an 85th winner at Townhead Park in Cumnock in a game devoid of clearcut chances.

This was a huge win for Largs Thistle to move on to the 20 point mark in the highly competitive league but remain in tenth position.

Both midfielder Jamie Martin and winger Sean McLeod showed some energetic moves in the first half with clever runs to prize open the Cumnock defence but their probing balls just eluded contact.

With the clock ticking away, the game was beginning to open up with both sides carving out opportunities but neither keeper had a lot to do with defences generally on top.

Defender Ryan McCreath came close to scoring for Largs as he headed a good opportunity against the side netting while Cumnock blazed some good openings over the target.

Largs boss Stuart Davidson gambled with an additional attacking option as experienced Scott Adam joined the frontline of Ramsay and sub Scott Lewis in the final stages - and it paid off after a well worked corner into the box.

This time McCreath directed his header into the path of Ramsay who made no mistake to rifle home from five yards.

Largs are near to coming off an extensive away schedule of five games out of six, rounding off with a trip to Petershill on Friday evening.

With wins at Glenafton and Cumnock, and a draw at Cambuslang, suddenly things are very much looking up for a Thistle side who have a raft of home games coming up in February and March - and players coming back from injury.

Manager Stuart Davidson's chief concern will be rounding off their road trip marathon with another three points in Glasgow.

But this weekend Thistle can savour a hard fought and gallus victory at a venue which has been traditionally a tough nut to crack for Largs but have now recorded three wins at Townhead Park in the past four seasons.
