Young people can get their foot on the career ladder by stepping up to the council's Modern Apprenticeship programme.

The council is now in its 12th year of delivering a successful modern apprenticeship programme across council services, supporting hundreds of young people to learn new skills.

The council’s Cabinet will meet this week to consider proposals to enhance the existing programme.

Councillor Tony Gurney, Cabinet Member for Economy and Climate Change, said: “In recent years, we have supported hundreds of young people as they take their first steps into fruitful and successful careers.

“We have operated one of the largest local authority modern apprenticeship programmes in Scotland and we’re proud of the impact it has had on our young people’s lives."

The Council’s successful Modern Apprenticeship programme reaches across a wide range of Council services including Active Leisure, Business Administration, Civil Engineering, Horticulture, Housing, Social Sciences and Youthwork.

Over the previous three-year programme, 151 Modern Apprentices were recruited.

It is proposed that this programme is enhanced even further, supporting around 70 apprentices annually.
