Largs Thistle 2008s had back to back victories in recent weeks as they continue their push for silverware this season.

First up on 11th February was a comfortable 3-1 win away to Auchinleck Talbot in the first round of the “President’s Cup”.

Initially, Largs struggled to create many clear-cut goal scoring opportunities and a great save from Thistle’s stand-in keeper Jayden McBlain ensured that the first half ended goalless.

But Thistle’s quality eventually shone through and a quick-fire double from winger Jamie Ennis and a third from substitute Alex Renton was enough to make sure Thistle progressed into the next round, despite a late consolation for the hosts from the penalty spot.

Then a week later on 18th February, Largs faced the undefeated league leaders Ayr Boswell in the quarter finals of the Wallace Gemmell Shield.  Having narrowly lost to Ayr twice already in the league, Largs were keen to show it wasn’t just a case of third time lucky, but that they deserved a place in the semi-final.

From the first whistle, Largs looked the stronger team, and held a one goal advantage at the half from an Alex Renton goal.

Despite a shaky 10 minute period in the 2nd (including an Ayr equaliser) Largs maintained the share of the ball, and had it not been for the woodwork, and an excellent Ayr keeper could have scored a few more.

But the winning goal did eventually come, a superb header from McBlain leaving the keeper without a chance.

A 2-1 win against the cup favourites now leaves Largs in a very strong position with just two games remaining.
